Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono condemned Israel's expansion of its aggression against Iran amid its attacks on the Gaza Strip, calling it a major violation of international law.

"The recent attacks on Iran demonstrate Israel's increasing disregard for peace and stability,” Sugiono stated at the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul on Saturday (June 21).

In his statement, Sugiono emphasized that Israel's aggression against Iran further threatens the dignity of international law and undermines all efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

Condemning Israel's attacks on several nuclear facilities in Iran, Sugiono reiterated the position of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA), which stated that "nuclear facilities must not be attacked under any circumstances, as such attacks can endanger human lives and the environment."

Sugiono also expressed deep concern over the worsening situation in Gaza, due to Israel's failure to halt its military aggression and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, which is crucial for the survival of Palestinians.

In addition to Gaza, Israel continues to undermine the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank through forced evictions and illegal settlements on Palestinian land.

"These actions increasingly raise doubts about the viability of the two-state solution that we all support," Sugiono noted.

In order to resolve the conflicts in the Middle East, Indonesia urged all parties to refrain from actions that threaten regional stability.

Sugiono also called on the OIC to strengthen its diplomatic efforts to pressure Israel to cease its violations of international law and its aggression in Palestine.

Israel's relentless aggression in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 has resulted in the deaths of more than 55,900 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, and has caused a major humanitarian disaster in the enclave.

Meanwhile, Israel's attacks on Iran over the past nine days have killed more than 400 Iranians and injured 3,056 others, according to Head of Public Relations for the Iranian Health Ministry Hossein Kermanpour, who reported on Saturday (June 21).
