Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, as well as de-escalation of the recent conflict between Israel and Iran.

He emphasized Indonesia’s active stance towards global peace during the Leaders’ Retreat with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

"We emphasize the importance of a peaceful resolution through negotiations and call for an immediate ceasefire," Prabowo remarked at the Parliament House, Singapore, on Monday.

The president said Indonesia viewed a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels and negotiations as the only solution to the conflict, which continues to claim civilian lives in the Middle East region.

"We express our deep concern over the situation in Gaza and the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran," he noted.

Beyond Middle East issues, President Prabowo highlighted the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, which began with the 2021 military coup against the democratically elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

As fellow ASEAN members, Indonesia and Singapore agreed to continue encouraging peaceful engagement in Myanmar, consistent with ASEAN principles, according to Prabowo.

ASEAN has been advocating for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), agreed upon by all its leaders—including Myanmar's junta—which focuses on ending violence, increasing humanitarian assistance, and ensuring inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders in Myanmar.

"Regarding Myanmar, we agreed to continue to push for engagement and a peaceful resolution in that country," Prabowo concluded.
