Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government plans to involve cooperatives established under the Red and White Village Cooperatives program in its initiative to renovate two million homes by December 2025.

“We intend to empower Red and White Village Cooperatives so they can contribute to the housing renovation program as suppliers of construction materials,” Deputy Minister of Housing and Human Settlements Fahri Hamzah said on Monday.

He noted that the government has allocated Rp43.6 trillion (over US$2.6 billion) for the initiative, with each home renovation receiving Rp21.8 million in funding.

Of that amount, Rp1.8 million is allocated for training and administrative purposes, Rp2.5 million for direct homeowner assistance, and Rp17.5 million for purchasing construction materials from cooperatives.

Hamzah added that he is coordinating with Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono to implement the plan.

“He is currently developing the necessary system, and we will work together to resolve the technical aspects,” he said.

He also noted that his ministry has been in close coordination with other institutions, including the National Police (Polri) and the Armed Forces (TNI), to meet the renovation target set by President Prabowo Subianto.

Hamzah explained that the initiative is an expanded version of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program (BSPS), which previously facilitated the renovation of about 140,000 homes annually.

“The President has made it clear that we must reach the target of renovating two million homes this year,” he emphasized.

He concluded by calling on all stakeholders to give their full support.

“It is critical that we put forth tremendous effort, including serious planning and coordination,” he said.
