Speaking here on Monday, Suwarta emphasized that the government’s presence is not merely symbolic but demonstrates genuine care by responding directly to the aspirations of local communities.
“We are here not just to observe but also to listen and respond as a sign of the state's concern for the people's situation,” Suwarta remarked.
He explained that this initiative was the minister's direct instruction, urging the government to be truly present among the people, to heed their aspirations, and to gain a clear understanding of the community’s actual conditions.
According to Suwarta, with the conflict escalating and increasing social dynamics within the community, the ministry decided to visit the conflict areas in person.
"Our presence here aims to ensure that the mission of reconciliation and peace is realized in Maybrat District," he stated.
He acknowledged that Maybrat District experienced social unrest several years ago, which continues to affect the area today.
"We hope our presence can contribute as much as the Ministry of Human Rights can facilitate. The issues we face are related to the conflicts themselves, post-conflict handling, and future planning, all of which involve human rights," he stated.
Governor of Southwest Papua Elisa Kambu emphasized the importance of reconciliation in building trust among communities.
“I invite all residents who have relatives or family members involved in conflicts or holding differing views to open the door to reconciliation. Let us rebuild Maybrat with peaceful hearts,” he stated.
