Indonesia can intensify calls for peace through the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other international organizations that promote political stability in various parts of the world, according to Lemhannas governor Ace Hasan Syadzily.
“Because only with world peace, as mandated by our Constitution, will global economic growth run. We as a nation will certainly be affected if the world’s geopolitical situation is uncertain,” he added here on Tuesday.
In addition, the government is expected to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens who are in countries affected by the current conflict, in keeping with the mandate of the Constitution.
Every week, he said, Lemhannas conducts a study of global economic and political crises.
“Well, the principle that we always push is that we want the world to be truly stable because stability, both global and regional, will certainly affect domestic conditions in our country,” he explained.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto convened a meeting with Cabinet ministers responsible for political and security affairs to discuss global developments and ways to mitigate their impact.
The meeting took place on Monday amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, which escalated into war on June 13, 2025, after Israel conducted unprovoked airstrikes on Iran, including its nuclear and military facilities. This prompted Tehran to launch counter-offensives.
The war escalated further after the US military on Saturday launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities in an operation President Donald Trump described as a “very successful attack.”
In response, Tehran launched missiles at the US Al Udeid airbase in Qatar on Monday evening local time.
On Sunday, the Iranian parliament also approved a motion to close the Hormuz Strait for maritime activities, pending a decision from the higher security authority.
US President Donald Trump said late on Monday that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire that would, after 24 hours, mark an official end to the 12-day war.
On Tuesday, he announced that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel is in effect, urging both sides not to violate it.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said later in the day that they had detected a new missile attack from Iran after the ceasefire was announced. Iran denied the allegations, Iranian state media reported.
