… AI learning is like a knife: anyone can use the knife, whether for positive or negative purposes...
South Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) provided practical guidance to teachers on using artificial intelligence (AI) and coding to optimize student learning.

“I strongly support this activity. In an educational context, AI learning is like a knife: anyone can use the knife, whether for positive or negative purposes,” UMJ Rector Ma'mun Murod said during a two-day teachers’ workshop held by UMJ in Tangerang, Banten, which ended on Thursday.

“The Minister of Education has proposed that AI be included in the education curriculum, and I strongly support this,” he added.

He said that rapid advancements in digital technologies have brought significant changes in various aspects of life, including in education. AI and coding are increasingly being adopted in the sector.

The rector noted that AI and coding have great potential to improve learning quality and help educators carry out their duties more effectively and efficiently.

“However, behind the vast potential, there are major challenges faced by teachers,” he pointed out.

An expert staff on digital transformation and artificial intelligence to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Maruf Mutaqien, said that the AI guidance for teachers aligned with one of the ministry’s priority programs on coding and AI learning.

“Currently, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is preparing a guidance on the use of artificial intelligence for teachers. This guidance is the result of a long process that has been carried out since October 2024 and will later be used by educators in their respective schools,” he said.

He informed that the ministry has trained facilitators who will train teachers.

“This training is mandatory for schools that have received School Operational Assistance (BOS) Performance. After attending three months of training, teachers will teach students in the classroom,” he said.
