“We are targeting markets around Indonesia, like Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia. Those (countries) will be our targets, our focus,” Assistant Deputy for Foreign Tourism Marketing II at the Tourism Ministry Yulia said in Kuta, Badung District, Bali, on Thursday.
She informed that the Tourism Ministry has conducted an internal review, based on which it has shifted its marketing strategy to nearby regions such as Asia and Oceania, moving away from its prior focus on distant markets.
To harness the potential of the new target regions, the agency is promoting tourism through both direct and online channels and engaging diverse partners such as airlines.
The ministry is also developing tourism packages that match current global travel trends, including in wellness tourism, gastronomy tourism (emphasizing culinary experiences with historical value), and maritime tourism.
Promotions for the 10 priority destinations are also being carried out intensively.
They comprise Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Tanjung Kelayang in Bangka Belitung, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi, Morotai in North Maluku, Bromo, and Likupang in North Sulawesi.

Yulia noted that Bali remains the primary choice among international travelers and has solidified its reputation as a regenerative destination.
She elaborated that regenerative tourism encourages tourists to participate in the restoration of a destination after their vacation.
In addition to Bali, Indonesia’s two other regenerative destinations are Jakarta and Riau Islands.
The Tourism Ministry is targeting to draw 14.6 million to 16 million international tourists this year.
Earlier, escalating tensions in the Middle East amid the conflict between Israel and Iran significantly affected the tourism sector.
The geopolitical unrest prompted several international airlines, including Qatar Airways, to cancel flights on several routes.
