Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 47 Sekolah Rakyat principals participated in the second phase of a retreat, where they were introduced to artificial intelligence (AI) technology to identify the potential of students and teachers, under Sekolah Rakyat's preparation.

Sekolah Rakyat is a free education initiative launched by the government to improve access to education and reduce poverty across the country.

During the Sekolah Rakyat principals retreat on Wednesday, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf explained that the technology aims to help school principals better understand the strengths of students and teachers at Sekolah Rakyat.

"They were introduced to AI to map out the potential of the students and teachers they would lead," Yusuf explained.

He then noted that the Sekolah Rakyat curriculum had been developed and included a special module allowing students to bypass academic tests, requiring only administrative and health checks.

The second phase of the retreat is being held on July 2-7, 2025, at the Social Welfare Education and Training Center of the Ministry of Social Affairs, South Jakarta, and the 1/Faletehan Air Defense Regiment.

Participants are state civil servants (ASN) from various regions with experience in leading educational institutions and have passed the selection process to become Sekolah Rakyat principals.

This principal retreat program is a key part of preparing Sekolah Rakyat, which aims to serve up to 20 thousand students from beneficiary families of the KPM program throughout Indonesia this year.

The minister stated that Sekolah Rakyat's policy is affirmative, especially for the poorest groups who fall into the decile 1 category, or 10 percent of the extremely poor.

The first phase of the retreat, held on June 16-20, 2025, was attended by 52 principals with materials on Sekolah Rakyat introduction, character building, and discipline training.

As of June 22, construction of Sekolah Rakyat school buildings was 61.78 percent complete, with a scheduled completion date of July 8, 2025.
