Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) at the Attorney General's Office, Asep Nana Mulyana, firmly stated that there will be no safe haven or lenient treatment for drug offenders in Indonesia.

He emphasized that drug abuse is a serious crime, and the government is committed to eradicating narcotics from upstream to downstream.

"As a law enforcement agency, we at the Attorney General’s Office are fully committed to combating the distribution of narcotics," Asep said during a press conference on drug evidence destruction in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Drug Eradication Task Force, which have intensified operations against narcotics in recent months.

Asep warned that if left unchecked, drugs pose a significant threat to society and therefore must not be tolerated.

In line with this stance, the Attorney General’s Office has adopted a firm policy of seeking maximum sentences for all drug offenders, from major traffickers to street-level dealers and their networks.

"There will be no tolerance. No justification whatsoever to ease up on them," he stated.

In narcotics cases, Asep explained that prosecutions are handled directly by the Attorney General’s Office, whether the cases originate from regional or central jurisdictions, which sets them apart from other types of criminal cases.

Thanks to the government’s strong commitment, he added, the BNN has recently reported fewer findings of drug evidence on the ground.

"My deepest appreciation goes to the BNN Chief, who has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fighting narcotics," he said.

At the same press event, the BNN destroyed 592.85 kilograms and 471 pills of narcotics seized from 33 drug cases, with a total of 78 suspects arrested in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Acting Deputy for Eradication at BNN, Police Brigadier General Budi Wibowo, stated that the destroyed narcotics were confiscated by both the national and provincial BNN offices during operations conducted from February to June 2025 in North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Jakarta, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi.

"Through this destruction of drug evidence, BNN proves that the state does not remain silent in the face of the narcotics threat," Brigadier General Budi said during the press conference.

He detailed that the seized narcotics consisted of 279.41 kilograms of methamphetamine, 313.44 kilograms of marijuana, and 471 ecstasy pills.
