Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, through the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), has implemented a visa-free visit (BVK) policy for foreign nationals holding Brazilian and Turkish passports, effective July 3, 2025.

Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman stated that the policy was implemented following evaluations coordinated with relevant ministries and institutions.

"The main consideration for granting BVK to Brazil and Turkey is that both countries have previously granted visa-free visits to Indonesian citizens," said Yuldi in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The policy is outlined in Regulation of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections Number 9 of 2025 and is based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 95 of 2024 concerning Visa-Free Visits.

Article 2, Paragraph 3 of the presidential regulation states that visa-free visits must consider the principles of reciprocity and benefit, as well as national security, tourism, economic and investment impacts, and other factors determined by the President.

The BVK permits a stay of up to 30 days, which cannot be extended or converted into another type of residence permit. It may only be used for tourism, business meetings, or medical treatment.

Yuldi emphasized that the implementation of BVK will be carried out selectively.

"The Directorate General of Immigration supports economic development by ensuring that only qualified foreigners who can contribute positively are granted access to Indonesia," he said.

He added that the government continues to strengthen oversight of foreign nationals and will regularly evaluate the BVK policy to ensure its compliance with existing laws and regulations.
