Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, has emphasized that the government’s programs in the fields of higher education and science are inclusive and designed to cover both public and private universities.

“We do not differentiate between public and private (higher education) institutions,” he said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday.

“Almost all programs we launch are intended to facilitate all lecturers, whether from public or private universities,” he added.

Minister Yuliarto informed that his ministry, through the Directorate General of Research and Development, has launched a number of research programs, most of which have drawn participation from lecturers from private universities.

In addition, he noted that several private universities are involved in the World Class University program, which aims to ensure Indonesian universities can compete at the global level.

“We encourage several campuses to enter the world global rankings,” he said.

The minister added that some private universities in the country have demonstrated their high quality, which is comparable to top public universities. Therefore, they also deserve the opportunity to represent Indonesia in the global World Class University ranking.

“We want these rankings not to become a competition among Indonesian universities, but rather an effort to compete with international universities,” he stressed.

Yuliarto further said that the ministry is regularly conducting visits to universities across the country, including those located in frontier, underdeveloped, and outermost (3T) regions.

“Whenever we visit a region, we always make time to visit both public and private universities. In fact, we often visit more private campuses, so we can understand the conditions,” he added.
