Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, has said that his ministry is pushing for the effective use of opportunities for job creation within the country.

“We have to optimize all of our opportunities,” he stressed after attending a working meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday.

He delivered the remarks in response to a statement made by Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, on overseas jobs being a logical alternative amid the shrinking of domestic job vacancies.

According to Yassierli, opportunities for job creation in Indonesia can be realized through President Prabowo Subianto’s national priority programs.

“Starting from the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, then the nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), 80 thousand Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperatives. Followed by the downstreaming effort, food security, to energy security. Those are the real job opportunities,” he said.

Besides expanding employment opportunities, the minister said that the strategic program can increase worker productivity in the country, which is still considered low.

To accelerate the goal, his ministry is seeking to prepare more qualified human resources (HR) by initiating training programs as well as providing vocational education.

He also called for strategic cooperation between stakeholders and across ministries.

For example, his ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cooperatives Ministry on human resource (HR) training for the Red and White Cooperatives.

Furthermore, Yassierli said that new jobs could also be generated from new investments in several industrial sectors in Indonesia.

The Danantara Investment Management Agency and the Ministry of Investment have an important role in this, he added.

“We have signed an MoU with the Ministry of Investment. In the future, every investment made will also include considerations related to employment,” Yassierli informed.

Moreover, the two ministries are open to discussing opportunities for internships or work abroad, he added.
