In a statement received here on Thursday, director general for marine transportation at the ministry, Muhammad Masyhud, confirmed reports that four people had died, while 31 others had been safely evacuated from the ship as of 10 a.m. local time on Thursday.
Currently, the survivors, who are still being identified, are undergoing treatment in Gilimanuk, Bali, he said.
He informed that the ship, which was sailing from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port, sank at 11:35 p.m. (GMT+7) on Wednesday after experiencing an emergency.

According to the ship manifest, the MV Tunu Pratama Jaya carried 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), national police, armed force, port authorities, and other stakeholders mounted a joint search and rescue effort early Thursday morning.
“Currently, the search and rescue operation is still underway, with the help of marine fleets and SAR units from relevant stakeholders. Efforts to rescue other passengers are still being carried out,” Masyhud said.
He added that difficult sea conditions, such as high waves and strong winds, have made the rescue operation challenging.
The ministry deeply regrets the incident and will ensure prompt measures are taken to address the situation, he added.
“We are consistently coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure the search and rescue operation goes accordingly,” he stressed.
A post has been established on Gilimanuk Port to handle the situation, he said.
“We will inform of further developments as the SAR team makes their official reports,” he added.
