This initiative aims to uphold Indonesia's strong track record and prepare for qualification at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
"Sending our national rock climbing team to Krakow and Chamonix reflects our commitment to strengthening the Indonesian National Team," FPTI Secretary General Pristiawan Buntoro noted in a written statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.
FPTI is fielding a full roster of five male and five female athletes -- seasoned competitors who have consistently represented Indonesia at various international events.
The male athletes participating are Alfian Muhammad Fajri, Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi, Kiromal Katibin, Raharjati Nursamsa, and the Olympic gold medalist, Veddriq Leonardo.
The female contingent includes Amanda Narda Mutia, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, Kadek Adi Asih, Susan Nurhidayah, and Puja Lestari.
According to Pristiawan, the Krakow leg offers a vital opportunity for athletes to demonstrate consistent performance amid intensifying global competition.
It also marks an important milestone in the regular competitive calendar leading up to the season’s peak.
After Krakow, the team will compete in the next series in Chamonix.
In addition to speed climbers, FPTI has entered athletes in the Lead discipline: Muhammad Rizky Syahrafli Simatupang and Musauwir from the men’s team and Sukma Lintang Cahyani from the women’s team.
"This also aligns with our primary goal to qualify for the Lead discipline at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics," he affirmed.
Indonesia’s sport climbing scene has swiftly risen to global prominence, culminating in a historic breakthrough at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The highlight came when Veddriq Leonardo won Indonesia's first-ever Olympic gold medal in men’s speed climbing, clocking a remarkable 4.75 seconds.
His victory not only marked Indonesia’s first Olympic gold outside of badminton but also reinforced the nation’s status as a rising force in the climbing world.
Alongside Veddriq, climbers such as Rajiah Sallsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi reached the semifinals and competed fiercely, showcasing Indonesia’s depth in talent and competitive spirit.
