"As of Tuesday afternoon, 18 previously delayed or canceled flights have resumed operation," airport general manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab noted in a statement on Tuesday.
On Monday, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted again, sending a volcanic ash column reaching 18 thousand meters above the summit.
This eruption caused 24 flight cancellations and several delays on the Labuan Bajo, Australia, Singapore, and South Korea routes, Shahab explained.
However, Shahab confirmed that 18 flights resumed on Tuesday, including Qantas Airlines, with flights on the Sydney-Denpasar-Sydney and Melbourne-Denpasar-Melbourne routes.
Air Busan also resumed two Busan-Denpasar-Busan flights, Jetstar Airways is operating two flights on the Singapore-Denpasar-Melbourne route, and Korean Air restored four flights on the Incheon-Denpasar-Incheon route.
China Eastern resumed two flights on the Pudong-Denpasar-Pudong route, China Southern restarted two flights on the Guangzhou-Denpasar-Guangzhou route, and Singapore Airlines resumed two flights on the Singapore-Denpasar-Singapore route.
"All flights are planned to depart today," Shahab remarked.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport conducted paper tests for volcanic ash exposure at four locations between 8:00 and 9:00 local time, with results showing no ash detected.
"Until now, we have not received any information about flight cancellations. Overall, operations are running orderly and smoothly, both the departure process and the arrival of passengers," he remarked.
The airport management reminds passengers to reconfirm their flight schedules with each airline and to arrive at the airport two to three hours before departure as a precaution.
Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport in NTT, another affected airport, also reopened on Tuesday after a temporary closure due to the eruption.
The airport authority announced that 17 arrival flights and 18 departure flights are scheduled at the airport on Tuesday.
