During a bilateral meeting in Brasília on Wednesday, the two leaders also committed to expanding cooperation in various sectors, including the economy, trade, agriculture, education, and the defense industry.
President Prabowo noted that the Indonesian armed forces already operate a substantial amount of Brazilian-made defense equipment. He said Indonesia is eager to continue this partnership through joint production and technology transfer.
"We also want to increase joint military exercises and enhance technological collaboration in missile and submarine systems," he said during a joint press conference with President Lula at the Palácio do Planalto — the Brazilian presidential palace.
He also announced that Indonesia will soon implement the Indonesia–Brazil Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which was ratified into law on September 30, 2024.
Currently, Indonesia operates several Brazilian-made defense systems, including the EMB-314 Super Tucano tactical fighter aircraft and the Astros II MK6 rocket launcher vehicles.
Beyond defense, both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, food security, clean energy, and trade and investment, especially through Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara.
President Prabowo was accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, and Minister of Higher Education and Science Brian Yuliarto.
