“Because, of some instances of violence experienced or perpetrated by children, most of them are caused by social media or gadgets’ influence,” she added here on Thursday.
According to reports received by the ministry, 11,800 cases of violence against women and children were registered in Indonesia as of June 14, 2025.
On July 7, the number of cases surged to 13 thousand, meaning there were 2 thousand additional reports in just two weeks, she pointed out. The cases were dominated by sexual violence against women, she added.
Three of the biggest factors that contributed to the violence were parenting style, familial issues, and the unwise use of gadgets, she said.
Fauzi stressed that her administration cannot address the issue on its own, and needs assistance from other ministries, institutions, and the public to end the cycle of violence.
“As Mr. President Prabowo always said, no ministries or institutions can successfully do things on their own. Everyone must collaborate,” she said.
The revision of Presidential Instruction Number 5 of 2014 is expected to help prevent, handle, rehabilitate, and enforce the law to check violence against women and children, she added.
Through the adjustment, the government will integrate the sexual violence prevention programs initiated across ministries and institutions.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, said that the revised instruction also covers measures to address all forms of violence against women and children, and not just sexual violence.
He noted that there are many similar programs run by institutions in different sectors at various levels. He opined that their integration is important to achieve comprehensive protection of women and children.
“Our challenge is integrating everything in an integrated national initiative,” he said.
