Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Information Commission (KI) conducted a working visit to the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday to broaden its horizons and explore opportunities for international cooperation in public information disclosure.

"We want to learn from Malaysia's experience in building an effective information disclosure system," Deputy Chair of Jakarta KI Luqman Hakim Arifin stated during the meeting.

Both parties discussed various aspects of public information management, including institutional structures and mechanisms for resolving information disputes.

He stated that the meeting marked the start of efforts to build collaboration and conduct comparative studies on the regulation and implementation of information disclosure between Indonesia and Malaysia.

He explained that the Public Information Disclosure Law established the Information Commission as an independent institution at both the central and regional levels.

In Jakarta, the KI is tasked with ensuring that public agencies and other parties use the state budget transparently and accountably.

KI's primary duty is to resolve information disputes and ensure information transparency within public agencies.

He noted that Jakarta, as the nation's capital, has a responsibility to be a role model in public information transparency.

"Jakarta, as a global city, continues to strive to be a model for information transparency. Therefore, we must never stop learning, including from our international friends," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Deputy Ambassador, Farzami Sarkawie, stated that the Information Commission plays a crucial role in promoting transparent information governance.

He noted that Malaysia currently does not have an institution similar to the Information Commission.

Sarkawie also emphasized that Indonesia-Malaysia relations have been strengthened through various bilateral programs, including special cooperation mechanisms through bureaus or institutions that handle strategic issues.

"We hope this visit will pave the way for closer cooperation in realizing governance that is responsive to the public's right to information," he remarked.
