“We plan (the IEU-CEPA) to be signed next September and ratified immediately,” he said.
According to the minister, the long-awaited deal could help double the value of Indonesia-EU trade from US$30 billion to US$60 billion.
Government data shows that the value of bilateral trade reached US$30.1 billion in 2024, inclusive of Indonesian exports to the EU, pegged at US$17.5 billion.
Roeslani said that the partnership is expected to reach a new level through the IEU-CEPA and open new market opportunities to the combined 700 million population in Europe and Indonesia.
“It is a positive thing since our trade for investment with European countries is highly significant,” he added.
After accompanying President Prabowo Subianto to Belgium, where he met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, the minister confirmed he will be joining Prabowo in Paris, France, for the second leg of his European tour.
Roeslani informed that in Paris, he will attend a meeting with French and United Kingdom business partners, hosted by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) head Anindya Bakrie.
While delivering a joint press statement with Costa in Brussels on Sunday, the Indonesian President announced the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) after a decade.
“We have achieved a breakthrough. After 10 years of negotiations, we have concluded a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which basically is a free trade agreement,” Prabowo said.
President von der Leyen also welcomed the deal, calling it a reflection of Indonesia and the EU’s shared commitment to a long-term partnership.
