Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Food Agency (Bapanas) head Arief Prasetyo Adi announced on Tuesday that state logistics agency Perum Bulog has begun distributing rice assistance to support the economy of low-income communities.

“As a form of the government’s presence in providing an economic stimulus for the people, rice food aid has resumed in 2025,” he said in Jakarta.

Based on a directive from Bapanas, Perum Bulog, in coordination with local governments, began distributing 20-kilogram rice packages to each beneficiary family (PBP) as of Monday.

Adi welcomed the initial stage of the pro-people program, stressing that it remains a national priority and will be accelerated, in collaboration with Bulog, to ensure the targeted aid distribution is completed within a month.

“The government is working to speed up this good program because we are talking about our brothers and sisters who are most in need,” he said.

The Bapanas reported that as of Monday, 1,267 beneficiary families have received the assistance, equivalent to about 25.3 tons of rice.

The areas where the aid has been disbursed so far include Tanarung sub-district in Palangka Raya and Buntok Kota sub-district in South Barito, Central Kalimantan.

Other locations include Lauran village in the Tanimbar Islands, Silale and Waihong sub-districts in Ambon city, and Ketsoblak sub-district in Tual city, Maluku. In North Maluku, distribution has started in Salahudin sub-district, Ternate city.

The aid has also reached Gajahan village, Karanganyar district, Central Java, and 26 Ilir D1 sub-district in Palembang, South Sumatra.

Adi emphasized that the rice aid program is part of the policy continuity push by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

He added that the government aims to provide the aid to 18.27 million families across Indonesia this year.

“In line with the directive, we are using the beneficiary family data from the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), as mandated by Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2025. The focus is on households in deciles 1 through 7,” he informed.

He expressed the hope that the intervention would help stabilize rice prices and serve as an economic buffer for vulnerable households.

“We are continuing to improve targeting so that the aid reaches the right recipients,” he added.

According to a letter from the Bapanas head (No. 170/TS.03.03/K/7/2025 dated July 4, 2025), Bulog has been tasked with distributing rice aid for June and July 2025.

The overall target is to provide 10 kilograms of rice per month to 18,277,083 PBPs. The government aims to deliver 20kg of aid for June and July combined.
