Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government and the city of Heidelberg, Germany, have established formal urban development cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo and Heidelberg Mayor Eckart Würzner.

The agreement is focused on fostering innovation in urban governance, sustainable technology, and digital transformation to improve public welfare.

In an official statement released in Jakarta on Thursday, Governor Pramono lauded the initiative led by the city of Heidelberg. He also formally invited Mayor Würzner to visit Jakarta to explore potential areas of collaboration.

“Jakarta and Heidelberg share a common vision to build smart, green, and globally competitive cities. This partnership marks an important first step toward delivering impactful and people-centered urban development,” he said during his working visit to New York, the United States.

Mayor Würzner welcomed the invitation and expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between local governments in Indonesia and Germany as part of mutually beneficial development diplomacy.

“I am pleased with the opportunity to work with Jakarta. Heidelberg is committed to sharing its experiences and creating joint initiatives that benefit both cities,” he said.

The MoU also paves the way for further cooperation, including a possible sister-city relationship and thematic projects in education, research, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development.The agreement is a part of Jakarta’s broader strategy to expand international partnerships and reinforce its position as a progressive and innovation-driven global city.
