Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) plan to form a technical coordination team to accelerate the development of special kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

To this end, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo and BGN head Dadan Hindayana have intensively discussed building more kitchens, officially known as nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), with a special focus on underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

“We all share the responsibility to develop MBG kitchens. The Public Works Ministry stands ready to provide infrastructure support to ensure the program runs smoothly and reaches all regions across Indonesia,” Hanggodo said in a statement released here on Friday.

He emphasized that his ministry is committed to supporting the construction of SPPGs and ensuring they meet quality standards.

During a meeting to follow up on a memorandum of understanding signed in March 2025, Hanggodo and Hindayana discussed more ways in which the Public Works Ministry can contribute to the national program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

The ministry’s involvement in developing SPPGs aligns with its goals of helping bring down the national extreme poverty rate to zero percent and boosting economic growth to 8 percent.

Meanwhile, BGN head Hindayana stressed that strong and reliable infrastructure is key to distributing free nutritious meals to more schoolchildren effectively and efficiently.

“Our current plan is to set up more MBG kitchens in 3T regions,” he said.

Earlier, on July 6, 2025, the BGN announced that a total of 1,873 SPPGs are already operational, with the number expected to reach 2,200 before the end of July.

The government sees the development of these kitchens not only as a means to support the MBG program but also to strengthen food supply chains, create jobs, and stimulate growth in local economies.
