The first discussion on the guidelines was held on Thursday.
In a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday, deputy for partnership and halal standardization at the BPJPH, Abd Syakur, said that the mandatory halal certification requirements for cosmetic products will take effect on October 17, 2026.
“Through the drafting of these guidelines, we aim to harmonize regulations and develop a practical and responsive framework that accommodates the dynamics of the industry,” he informed.
“The drafting of this guideline requires close collaboration among stakeholders. The goal is to establish clear and integrated halal standards that provide certainty for businesses and protection for consumers,” he added.
He said that the initial drafting process will involve formulating the structure and key guideline elements that will serve as the foundation for the halal certification of cosmetic products.
After the initial phase, the BPJPH will initiate discussions with the relevant ministries and government agencies to align the guidelines with existing sectoral regulations.
The National Standardization Agency (BSN), the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Health, and the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS) are among the ministries/institutions that will be involved in the discussions.
By adopting a participatory and transparent process, the BPJPH is committed to delivering halal certification guidelines that strengthen the national halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream.
Syakur further emphasized that the guidelines will serve as a critical foundation to ensure that the halal certification of cosmetics is effective, efficient, and aligned with the needs of both national and international industries.
“This also aims to boost the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s halal cosmetic products in the growing global halal market,” he added.
