Speaking here on Friday, VP Gibran emphasized that the national celebration on August 17, 2025, will take place only at one location, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto through Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
“As stated by the state secretary minister, we will follow the president’s instructions. Moreover, IKN is still focused on construction,” he remarked.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro explained that this year’s Independence Day ceremony would be held in Jakarta, as IKN's development is still ongoing.
“The construction of IKN is still ongoing, so we are focusing on completing its development first,” Ardiantoro stated after attending a working meeting with Commission XIII of the House of Representatives at the parliamentary complex here on Thursday (July 17).
Nevertheless, a separate Independence Day ceremony will still be held at IKN, organized by the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN).
However, the official ceremony commemorating the Seconds to the Proclamation of Independence will take place in Jakarta.
Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, also shared that a committee to organize the 80th Independence Day celebration has been formed by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, with the PCO involved in the preparations.
Meanwhile, the launch of the official logo and theme for the 80th Independence Day celebration, initially set for Friday (July 18), has been postponed to Sunday (July 20).
The theme and logo will be launched during the upcoming car-free day event along the MH Thamrin–Sudirman streets in Jakarta on Sunday (July 20), through the distribution of souvenirs and other giveaways.
