Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives' (DPR's) Deputy Speaker, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the government has set targets for the development and readiness of the capital city's relocation to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

According to Ahmad, IKN's development is guided by existing laws and plans that have been determined based on the budget.

"After we have assessed the situation there, the development is proceeding according to the budget allocated by the government," Ahmad noted at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Monday.

He remarked that the relocation or acceleration of IKN's development must take into account the current budget.

Ahmad is so far not yet aware of the budget allocation for IKN.

"I do not know yet whether the 2026 budget will be increased or not, but there are targets from the government regarding readiness for the move. We will just follow them," he affirmed.

The NasDem Party earlier expressed the view that relocation of the nation's capital to IKN should be initiated by the vice president, including moving his office into the building already constructed in East Kalimantan.

NasDem Party Deputy Chairman Saan Mustopa underscored the need for the government to immediately issue a Presidential Decree regarding the transfer of the capital city to the new location.

He stated that the development of the new capital city has already consumed hundreds of trillions of rupiah from the state budget.

"The new capital city will be operated in stages by assigning the vice president and several priority ministries/institutions to carry out government activities in the new capital city while optimizing the existing infrastructure," Mustopa stated on Friday (July 18).
