Indramayu, West Java (ANTARA) - The Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin) has tasked five regions in West Java and Central Java with developing specific sectors, based on their unique potential and using an agglomeration-based approach, to address poverty.

BP Taskin Head Budiman Sudjatmiko said that the approach aims to ensure poverty alleviation programs are implemented in a more targeted manner and answer to the needs of individual regions.

“We have designated the leading sectors for each region. Indramayu, Cirebon District, and Brebes will focus on the food sector. Kuningan will specialize in renewable energy, while Cirebon City will lead in digital and creative industries,” he informed here on Monday.

He pointed out that while all regions have potential in several sectors, determining flagship sectors would allow each area to concentrate on a primary sector that can serve as a driver of regional development.

“All sectors will still be there, but with these leading sectors, we want each region to become stronger in a particular field that can serve as a driver of development,” he expounded.

Sudjatmiko said that the sectoral agglomeration approach was discussed in two meetings held in Jakarta and Brebes with district heads, mayors, and regional secretaries from the five regions.

The entire collaboration is based on the pentahelix scheme, meaning it involves the government, academia, businesses, the media, and community groups.

In addition to sector mapping, BP Taskin is also working to strengthen cooperatives, regional-owned enterprises (BUMD), and local small and medium businesses to help them emerge as key drivers of local economic development.

He added that similar models will be implemented in other regions, such as Southeast Sulawesi, in August 2025.

“We want every region to have a clear leading sector so that poverty reduction programs can be more focused and impactful,” he said.
