“The aircraft deal is still in the process of business-to-business negotiations between Boeing and Garuda. So, we will wait for further developments,” he said after attending a session on US tariffs with business associations here on Monday.
As reported earlier, Garuda Indonesia is planning to acquire 50 Boeing aircraft—mostly Boeing 777s—to follow up on the Indonesia-US tariff agreement.
Earlier, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso clarified that no memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed yet between Garuda Indonesia and the US-based aircraft manufacturer.
“As of now, Garuda Indonesia has not signed an MoU. The only MoUs signed were related to energy and agriculture, like soybeans, wheat, and so on,” he informed on July 18, 2025.
“But we are exploring (cooperation). There will be an agreement based on business considerations,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto said that the planned Boeing purchase is part of his government’s strategy to strengthen the national airline.
“We need Boeing aircraft to help grow Garuda. Garuda is our pride,” he added while issuing a press statement at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on July 16.
He emphasized Garuda Indonesia’s symbolic role as a national carrier born out of Indonesia’s independence struggle and stressed the importance of renewing the airline’s fleet.
“Garuda must be a symbol of Indonesia. I am committed to strengthening Garuda, and for that, we need new aircraft,” he said.
