The first eruption was recorded at 12:47 a.m. local time, generating a white ash column that rose 800 meters above the summit, moving north.
The volcano erupted again at 12:53 a.m. local time, sending an ash column 600 meters high above the summit.
"The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity, heading south," Mount Semeru observation officer, Liswanto, confirmed in a written report.
The third eruption occurred at 5:30 a.m. local time, with an observed eruption column height of approximately 900 meters above the summit, white to gray in color, and of moderate intensity heading south.
Another eruption took place at 5:39 a.m. local time, with an eruption column height of one thousand meters. The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity, moving southeast.
Furthermore, the fifth eruption occurred at 6:11 a.m. local time, with an observed eruption column height of approximately 600 meters above the summit, observed as white to gray with moderate intensity heading south.
Liswanto explained that Mount Semeru’s status remains at level II or alert.
Therefore, the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (PVMBG) has urged the local community to avoid activities in the southeast zone of the volcano, along the Besuk Kobokan river, up to a distance of 8 kilometers from the summit.
He remarked that residents are also advised to avoid activities within 500 meters of the Besuk Kobokan riverbank, as the area is prone to hot clouds and lahar flows that can travel up to 13 km from the summit.
