Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has coordinated with several parties to take down online sales links for the Blackmores Super Magnesium+ supplement product.

According to an official statement on Wednesday, the agency outlined that these related parties include the Ministry of Communication and Digital, the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA), and relevant marketplaces selling the product.

"We have coordinated to take down the sales links and submit a negative list or block the product in question," BPOM noted in the statement.

The BPOM issued this statement in response to media reports about alleged side effects from the vitamin B6 supplement.

Based on a search of BPOM's registration data and coordination with PT Kalbe Blackmores Nutrition, the distributor of Blackmores products in Indonesia, Blackmores Super Magnesium+ is neither registered nor permitted for distribution in Indonesia. The product is sold exclusively in Australia.

Currently, the agency is coordinating with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to obtain further information regarding this matter.

The BPOM reminded that businesses distributing health supplement products without a distribution permit may be subject to criminal sanctions, as stipulated in Article 435 in conjunction with Article 138 paragraphs (2) and (3) of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, potentially resulting in up to 12 years imprisonment or a maximum fine of Rp5 billion (US$297 thousand).

The agency also continuously conducts pre- and post-market monitoring to ensure that health supplements distributed in Indonesia meet safety, efficacy, and quality requirements and do not contain hazardous or prohibited substances.

Furthermore, the BPOM invited the public to be cautious in selecting health supplements by implementing the Check Packaging, Label, Distribution Permit, and Expiration Date (KLIK) and avoiding consuming products without a distribution permit or those not legally registered.

"BPOM urges the public to immediately report any side effects or complaints suspected to result from health supplements to BPOM," according to the statement.

The public is also encouraged to report to the BPOM, through the HALOBPOM Contact Center at 1500533 or the nearest BPOM office, about any information regarding health supplements that fail to meet regulations and/or contain hazardous or prohibited ingredients, including those sold online.
