“For products that are not produced in the US, but we export, we are asking for a zero percent tariff. For example, CPO, cocoa, and coffee -- those are not produced there,” he informed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Regarding US imports entering Indonesia tariff-free, he emphasized that not all American products would enjoy duty-free and non-tariff barrier exemptions.
“The details of which commodities are subject to tariffs or not will be outlined in the agreement, which is still being negotiated,” he said.
He confirmed that the current US import tariff rate of 19 percent for Indonesian products will remain unchanged.
“The important thing is that there will be no reciprocal tariff changes through August (2025). Hopefully, we remain at 19 percent while other countries don’t change, so we’ll still be among the lowest,” he said.
Currently, the mapping of imported products subject to tariffs is still in the administrative process and will later be reflected in the new agreement between Indonesia and the United States.
However, he said he could not yet disclose which specific commodities are being negotiated, though both sides have been discussing the scope of products since the start of talks.
