The logo was officially unveiled by President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"From the briefing to my presentation of the brand guidelines, it took one month," Yoshugi stated when met after the launch.
Along with his association, the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI), Yoshugi engaged in intensive discussions for about three weeks, ultimately creating the logo deemed the best.
The official logo was selected through a competition that received 245 design entries from designers within the ADGI.
Out of these, five designs were shortlisted, and one was chosen as the winning logo.
On the same occasion, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo decided and selected the designs created by ADGI designers.
"Of the 245 (designs), the top five were selected. From those top five, we then reported to the President, and the President reviewed them all. He reviewed each one individually and then chose the design created by the Association," Hadi explained.
The jury's decision was based on several factors, such as the originality of the work and the strength of the visual narrative presented by the finalists.
Bram Patria Yoshugi is an Art Director at Thinking*Room, based in Bandung.
He graduated in 2016 with a degree in Visual Communication Design from the Faculty of Arts and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and is a member of ADGI.
The Independence Day logo features a simple design with the number “80” in red and white, symbolizing the nation’s 80th anniversary.
The logo incorporates two cylindrical forms set within the numbers 8 and 0. Taken together, they represent “two strong cores”: “unity” and “sovereignty.”
The bold, bright red outlines of the numbers 8 and 0 can be interpreted as a “manifestation of the people’s prosperity.”
The unbroken lines of numbers 8 and 0 are often interpreted as symbols of infinity. Placed side by side, the two numbers represent the “complete form of Advanced Indonesia.”
