The districts are Keerom, Sarmi, Mamberamo Raya, Supiori, Biak Numfor, Jayapura, Kepulauan Yapen, and Waropen, Papua Police Spokesperson Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito told ANTARA here, Wednesday.
The personnel, currently on standby for deployment to the nine regions for the repeat voting, have been recruited from the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), and Community Protection Unit (Linmas), he remarked.
They would jointly secure all phases of the election, from the delivery of election logistics through to vote counting, he stated, adding that Papua's security and public order are relatively conducive.
To secure the repeat voting, he urged locals to participate actively in maintaining peace and public order, and to remain vigilant against misleading and unfounded information circulating in communities.
A total of 759,959 registered voters will cast their votes in 2,023 ballot booths for the upcoming gubernatorial election, Sukarnito added.
Regarding this repeat voting, Commander of the XVII/Cendrawasih Regional Military Command Major General Rudi Puruwito stated that five districts in Papua are considered vulnerable to security disruptions before and during the regional elections, including potential threats from armed groups.
He stated that these districts are Jayapura, Keerom, Mamberamo Raya, Waropen, and Kepulauan Yapen.
