Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has said that the Village Electricity (Lisdes) program can accelerate efforts to provide equitable access to electricity in frontier, underdeveloped, and outermost (3T) regions, including Papua.

“I hope that with electricity coming in, our children can use technology in school. One day, they will become leaders in Papua, leaders in this nation, and great individuals. Nothing is impossible,” he added, according to a statement released here on Friday.

The minister, who visited several remote villages in Papua, including Tindaret village in Yapen Islands district, Sauyas village in Supiori district, and Owi Island in Biak Numfor district, noted that President Prabowo Subianto has tasked his ministry with ensuring energy justice by guaranteeing electricity access for all Indonesians, without exception.

“We currently have around 5,758 villages and 4,310 hamlets, a total of 10,068 locations, assigned by President Prabowo for us to bring light to all villages, hamlets, and small settlements from Aceh to Papua,” Lahadalia informed.

The 2025–2029 Lisdes road map will target 4,310 locations in Papua, with more than 280 thousand households expected to gain access to electricity.

Electricity infrastructure in those areas will be developed through grid expansion, solar power plants, and the SuperSUN program.

Meanwhile, president director of state electricity firm PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that in the first half of 2025, the Lisdes Program in Papua provided electricity access to a total of 1,606 households in 36 villages.

Meanwhile, Yapen Islands district head Benyamin Arisoy said that the program is not only seeking to bring electricity to villages but also open opportunities for economic and social development in rural areas.
