Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, encouraged children to take an active role in protecting the environment and responding to climate change through play-based learning approaches.

Speaking at the launch of the Aksi Generasi Iklim (AGI) — Climate Generation Action campaign themed “A Day of Play with Children” in Jakarta on Sunday, Minister Fauzi emphasized the increasing number of disasters, such as flash floods and landslides, linked to the climate crisis.

“If this situation is left unaddressed and the younger generation is not involved in protecting the environment, the future consequences could be far greater. That’s why it is our shared responsibility, including children’s, to take an active role,” she stated.

During the event, Minister Fauzi also engaged in interactive discussions with children about climate change and environmental issues. In one session, children were guided to explore their imagination and creativity by building ducks using bricks.

“The main agenda today is to play while learning. We want children to play with tools, not gadgets,” she mentioned.

Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, Deputy for Coordination of Family Quality Improvement and Population at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), said that the launch of the AGI campaign represents a concrete step in increasing children’s awareness of climate and environmental issues.

She noted that through the spirit of learning through play, children can more easily understand climate change and environmental topics.

The “A Day of Play with Children” initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and several child-focused NGOs.
