Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) on Wednesday conducted an on-site investigation into the fire that ravaged Taman Puring Market in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, earlier this week.

“The Puslabfor team was scheduled to examine the Taman Puring fire scene at 10 a.m. The team departed from Sentul to the location,” South Jakarta Metro Police’s public relations officer, Commissioner Murodih, said in Jakarta.

The forensic team arrived at the market around 11:51 a.m. local time. Wearing navy blue uniforms, they inspected several areas around the market that were affected by the fire.

On Wednesday morning — the third day since the fire broke out on Monday — flames were still visible in several parts of the market.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has pledged to rebuild Taman Puring Market following the fire, which erupted on Monday evening.

A total of 552 stalls and their contents, spanning an area of 1,500 square meters, were destroyed in the blaze.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit at a closed secondhand clothing shop.

While no casualties were reported, the estimated total loss from the fire is estimated to be Rp30 billion (around US$1.8 million).
