“The market has caught fire three times. We, of course, are preparing to repair it,” he told journalists.
Governor Anung said that Taman Puring is vital since it is a people’s market that serves local needs. Therefore, the Jakarta administration will prepare to repair the infrastructure that was gutted in the fire.
To put out the fire, which started at 6 p.m. local time on Monday, he coordinated with the South Jakarta mayor and other agencies, including the fire and rescue agency (Gulkarmat).
At least 118 firefighters, using 35 fire trucks, fought the blaze for three and a half hours, he said. No casualties were reported in the incident, he added.
Due to its proximity to the fire-ravaged market, the Kebayoran Baru police station transferred four prisoners to the South Jakarta police precinct, citing safety concerns.
