“Youth organizations should become digital-savvy and data-driven,” Agustinus Teguh Santoso, Assistant I for Government and Public Welfare at the Mahulu Regional Secretariat, stated in Ujoh Bilang on Wednesday.
He noted that youth groups are also expected to provide spaces for young people to express themselves and innovate, covering areas such as social affairs, education, arts, culture, tourism, and also functioning as hubs for micro and small economic development through continuous creativity and new ideas.
Agustinus also encouraged youth organizations to build cross-sector and cross-platform networks. He believes that by fostering communication, coordination, and collaboration across sectors, numerous opportunities can be explored together.
“To be a leader today, it is not enough to manage internal organizational matters. One must also build broad connections and collaborations to create meaningful impacts in society,” he stated.
The karang taruna (youth organization) leaders across all villages in Mahakam Ulu were recently inaugurated by the regent. According to Agustinus, their newfound enthusiasm can lay a strong foundation for cross-sector collaboration.
“Youth organizations must be more than just present. They must be active and consistent. It is not enough to carry out routine activities. They must generate a positive impact within the community,” he added.
Agustinus stressed that the roles of chairperson and other leadership positions within youth organizations are not merely symbolic. These roles carry significant social responsibility and represent a public mandate.
“Leaders of these organizations represent not only their groups but also the collective hopes of the younger generation in their respective areas. Do not just be a symbol—be a true agent of change within the community,” he concluded.
