Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry has urged companies, especially those in the apparel, footwear, furniture, and electrical equipment sectors, to boost their products’ competitiveness and utilization to push up exports to the United States (US).

The ministry’s spokesperson, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, here on Thursday, urged domestic industry players to take advantage of the 19 percent tariff imposed on Indonesian products entering the US market, saying the rate is more competitive compared to other countries.

“Industrial companies that currently export their products to the US, especially those in the apparel, footwear, furniture, and electrical equipment sectors, should start increasing their production utilization, increasing their product offerings, improving the quality and competitiveness of their products,” he said.

Arif affirmed that as part of efforts to encourage the formation of an export-oriented industrial ecosystem, his ministry is ready to assist industries in obtaining raw materials if needed.

Earlier, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the tariff deal between the US and Indonesia can boost the competitiveness of domestic manufactured products in export markets.

“This will have a direct impact on industries, especially in utilization, job creation, and strengthening of national industrial structure,” he observed in Jakarta on July 16, 2025.

President Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump have reached a deal under which Indonesia will pay a 19-percent tariff on every product it exports to the US, while US exports to Indonesia will be exempt from tariff and non-tariff barriers.

The tariff is lower than the previously announced “reciprocal tariff” of 32 percent.

Under the deal, Indonesia will also purchase US$15 billion worth of energy, import US$4.5 billion of agricultural products, and buy 50 Boeing aircraft from the US.
