Sigi (ANTARA) - The government of Sigi district, Central Sulawesi, has integrated three national programs at the local level: the Red and White Village Cooperatives, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, and the Food Self-Sufficiency initiative.

“This is part of Sigi district government’s innovation in regional development,” Sigi District Head Moh Rizal Intjenae said in Dolo on Friday.

He emphasized the importance of cross-program collaboration to effectively implement national strategic policies at the local level.

“These three national programs are interconnected, so the local government must ensure concrete steps are taken to integrate them for more effective implementation,” he said.

As an initial step, the district has selected Maku village in Dolo sub-district as the pilot location for the integration.

“This pilot initiative in Maku village aims to implement the collaboration of the three programs. In the future, this will become an integrative model that will be regularly evaluated before expanding to other villages,” he explained.

The concrete steps under the initiative include the MBG implementation team preparing data on staple food needs to support the provision of nutritious meals in the area.

“The Agriculture Office will map the food needs to identify suitable crops and guide farming groups in Maku village accordingly,” he added.

Rizal informed that the Red and White Village Cooperative in Maku will support the provision of fertilizers, seeds, and other agricultural inputs. These will be offered through a credit system in collaboration with Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), which will serve as a funding partner.

“The farmers’ produce will be directly absorbed to support the Free Nutritious Meals program, creating a sustainable supply chain and a guaranteed market for the farmers,” he said.

He expressed the hope that the integration of the three national programs in Sigi district will run smoothly and serve as a concrete step toward building food independence and improving the welfare of rural communities through stronger cooperatives and enhanced nutrition for younger generations.

“We hope this program succeeds in Maku village so it can be replicated in other villages as a tangible effort to achieve local food sovereignty and improve the welfare of Sigi residents,” he added.
