Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is planning to hold the first-ever feast for the public in the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta as part of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day anniversary celebrations on August 17, 2025.

Deputy Minister of State Secretary, Juri Ardiantoro, announced the initiative at a press conference at the President’s Office at the palace on Friday.

“After the flag ceremony in the morning, we will open a people’s feast, where Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto) will offer a variety of dishes and beverages to those attending the ceremony,” he told the media.

According to Ardiantoro, the government aims to empower street food and drink vendors who usually sell their products around the palace and the National Monument (Monas) by involving them as suppliers for the feast.

He informed that the Independence Day ceremony is expected to draw up to eight thousand participants, adding that the government has reserved 80 percent of the venue’s capacity for members of the general public.

On that note, he said that residents who wish to take part in the national event can register at pandang.istanapresiden.go.id from August 4.

He then assured residents that even if they are not granted access to the ceremony, they can still join the festivities at another people’s feast scheduled to take place at the Monas Square from morning until evening.

“The people’s feast at Monas will feature various competitions, entertainment, free food, and fireworks in the evening,” Ardiantoro informed.

In addition, the national day will be enlivened by a parade involving representatives from ministries, state agencies, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and state-owned enterprises marching from Monas to the Semanggi intersection.

Participants will travel the route on vehicles decorated with information about their programs.
