The drug trafficking suspects, arrested during crackdowns on July 29 and July 31, 2025, have been identified as ADR, DM, and MM, head of the Jakarta Police’s Narcotics Investigation Unit, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Indra Tarigan, said on Friday.
A manhunt is underway for another suspect, identified by the initial T, who allegedly supplied the crystal meth package to the suspects, he informed.
ADR, DM, and MM were arrested based on a public tip on suspicious activities at a rented house in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, Banten province.
ADR, 30, was nabbed at his rented home on Darmawangsa Street, Pondok Aren, around 8 p.m. local time on July 29. DM, 34, and MM, 27, were apprehended at a hotel in South Jakarta on July 31.
The suspects have been taken into police custody. The drug package has been seized as physical evidence, he said, adding that a probe is on to identify the members of the China-Indonesia drug network.
The Jakarta police have charged the suspects with violating Article 114 of the Indonesian Narcotics Law No.35/2009, which carries penalties of 20 years to life in prison.
Indonesia remains a key target for international drug syndicates due to its large population and increasing number of drug users.
According to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the number of drug addicts in Indonesia has reached 3.3 million, with the economic impact of drug smuggling pegged at Rp500 trillion.
As reported earlier, in 2015, the BNN had found that Chinese drug syndicates were targeting Indonesia as a key market in Asia.
The agency identified Guangzhou in the province of Guangdong, China, as one of the biggest illegal drug producers and mapped the routes of international drug syndicates covering China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Western Africa.
