Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chair of the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura), Oesman Sapta Odang, has said that his side remains committed to supporting the current administration led by President Prabowo Subianto.

“We have stated our support for President Prabowo, and that’s it — we do not back any other factions,” he added after Hanura’s press conference on the President’s recent clemency policy in Jakarta on Saturday.

He added that he had made Hanura’s stance clear in April 2025 during the inauguration of members of the party’s central executive board.

“It should be noted that we voiced our support during the April inauguration. And today, we reiterate this stance, as we observe that the government has made improvements in law enforcement to better serve commoners,” Odang elaborated.

While Hanura is resolute in backing the President and his people-oriented programs and policies, the party will not hesitate to provide the government with inputs or even criticism, he assured.

“Our party will give him (President Prabowo) helpful inputs,” the former People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) deputy speaker said.

He then lauded the head of state for his decision to grant clemency to former trade minister Thomas “Tom” Trikasih Lembong and amnesty to secretary-general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, who were earlier convicted of corruption and bribery, respectively.

Odang said he views the pardon as a reflection of Prabowo’s statesmanship and commitment to restoring the sanctity of the Constitution as an instrument for protecting citizens from abuse of power and political criminalization.

He affirmed that the pardons do not necessarily signify that the government has wavered in its fight against corruption. Rather, he said, the legal relief is a stimulus for judicial transformation.

“Instead of harboring skepticism, I believe this policy lays a foundation for an overhaul in law enforcement. This is important to deter people from violating laws,” he said.
