"With a transparent and digitalized system, the distribution process is more accountable and well-monitored," Head of the Jakarta Environmental Service, Asep Kuswanto, stated on Monday.
He explained that eMaggot enables maggot distribution from producers to the Implementing Units and the Environmental Service to be carried out more efficiently, centrally, and digitally documented and cashless.
The initiative aims to support more effective, technology-based, community-empowering, and sustainable organic waste management.
Kuswanto remarked that the eMaggot platform not only offers technological solutions for waste management but also encourages the creation of a circular economic system that involves active community participation.
Meanwhile, Fathimah Himmatina, the creator and producer of Magobox, a portable BSF maggot cultivation device for households and communities, was among those who welcomed the eMaggot application launched on Aug 1.
Himmatina said she was glad to finally receive support from the Jakarta Environmental Service in creating a market ecosystem that links maggot farmers with buyers.
"Previously, we struggled to find markets, even having to search as far as Bogor and Mojokerto. Thankfully, now the market is much broader," she stated.
Himmatina added that home-based maggot farmers in Jakarta are independently initiating organic waste reduction in their homes and communities through the bio-conversion process.
Besides her, Royan, a maggot producer and buyer, also praised eMaggot for making it easier to market their cultivated maggots.
"I used to be confused about where to sell. Now, with this cooperative and digital system, distributing cultivated produce has become much easier," Royan stated.
Royan expressed hope that the Suka Resik Cooperative can develop beyond just a buying and selling platform to become a center for training, education, and collaboration among maggot farmers.
