Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) evacuated dozens of passengers and retrieved the bodies of two Chinese nationals who died in a speedboat accident off the coast of Sanur, Bali.

Edy Prakoso, Basarnas Director of Operations and Training, confirmed on Wednesday that 80 people were on board at the time of the incident, consisting of 73 local residents, two Chinese nationals, and five crew members.

"The latest data shows that 77 people have been declared safe, two have died, and one person is still missing today," he said.

The deceased were identified as Shi Guo Hong (20) and Hanqing Yu (37), both male Chinese nationals. One passenger, Kadek Adi (23), remains missing.

Basarnas reported that 15 survivors are being treated at Bali Mandara Hospital in East Denpasar for injuries and trauma.

Prakoso explained that the incident occurred as the Dolphin II speedboat was sailing from Nusa Penida Harbor to Sanur Harbor. The vessel reportedly sank and ran aground at the entrance to Sanur port on Tuesday afternoon, allegedly after being hit by large waves.

Upon receiving the report, the Basarnas office in Denpasar deployed eight personnel with full equipment, including a thermal drone. Search teams were formed on both land and sea, using a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) along with other SAR personnel.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi expressed his condolences and called for a swift response.

"On behalf of the government, we apologize and will swiftly handle and evaluate this incident," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"A navigational warning has also been issued to help prevent future maritime accidents and to ensure sea transportation safety," he added.
