Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has a solid social foundation for developing its blue economy, according to Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy.

He said on Wednesday that the 2025 figures from the Indonesia Blue Economy Index (IBEI) reflect a strong social base, particularly in terms of improving coastal residents' welfare and utilizing marine resources to enhance nutrition.

The IBEI data shows robust performance in the central and eastern regions of Indonesia, especially Sulawesi, Java, and Maluku. Lower scores were recorded in Kalimantan, Papua, and parts of Sumatra.

This pattern highlights both progress and remaining challenges in implementing the blue economy in Indonesia, Pambudy said.

He emphasized that the development of the blue economy heavily depends on cross-sectoral collaboration.

Pambudy also expressed hope that Indonesia's marine development will be pursued sustainably, ensuring that future generations can benefit from it.

"We hope that blue economy development — including inclusive, science-based blue food — can help address future challenges in a sustainable way. Let's strengthen the blue economy and blue food as pillars of our future growth," he said.
