The agreement was made during a meeting between the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Maria Renata Hutagalung, and eight members of the Mie Prefectural Parliament at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo.
“The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration across various sectors, including labor, which will be realized through the drafting of a Labor MoU. Discussions also covered the Mie Prefectural Parliament-Indonesia Friendship League,” the Embassy noted in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Hutagalung remarked that the Mie Parliament hopes the cooperation would extend beyond employment to other sectors.
“There are many other sectors we can explore together, such as in economic and cultural partnerships,” she stated.
Also present at the meeting was Inagaki Akiyoshi, Chair of the Mie Prefectural Parliament-Indonesia Friendship League, who revealed that in May, the delegation visited Jakarta to explore the possibility of a labor MoU with Indonesia.
“During that visit, we met with representatives from the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education and Culture,” Inagaki remarked.
He also expressed hope that skilled workers from Indonesia can help meet labor demands and needs in Mie Prefecture.
The Mie Prefectural Parliament-Indonesia Friendship League comprises 42 out of the 45 members of the Mie Prefectural Parliament, making it the first such league formed at the regional parliamentary level across Japan.
Also attending the meeting was Life Vision, a labor supply company, which highlighted several key factors to consider in preparing the Labor MoU.
These include adequate pre-departure training, Japanese language proficiency, and a support system to ensure Indonesian workers can work safely and with peace of mind in Japan.
Also accompanying the Mie Prefectural Parliament were representatives from the Indonesian Apprenticeship Providers Association (APPI), along with Japanese private sector companies involved in the preparation and implementation once the Labor MoU is eventually agreed upon between the Mie Prefecture and the Indonesian side.
