Bandung (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day should be modest and focused on public service, urging officials to avoid extravagance.

“We are projecting relatively modest celebrations, as we still have much work to do for the people,” he stated after attending the 2025 Indonesian Convention of Science, Technology, and Industry in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

The President made the remarks in response to media inquiries about the list of foreign leaders he plans to invite to the August 17 commemoration at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

The planned activities for the day will begin with a reenactment ceremony of the proclamation of independence at Merdeka Palace in the morning, followed by a public feast offering a variety of food and drinks in the palace’s central courtyard in the afternoon.

A similar daylong public feast will also take place at the National Monument (Monas) square, which will feature a fireworks show in the evening.

President Prabowo will also flag off a night parade involving representatives from ministries, government agencies, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Attorney General’s Office, and state- and region-owned enterprises.

Participants from each institution will be accompanied by vehicles decorated with themes reflecting their respective programs.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, who chairs the celebration committee, told reporters on Tuesday that the parade’s starting point would be located near the palace.

He added that President Prabowo hopes the festivities will foster public optimism amid current national challenges.
