The Palestinian issue was among the topics discussed by President Prabowo and Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra during a one-on-one meeting at the Presidential Office at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.
"On global issues, we appreciate Peru's support for Palestinian independence. We will work together to achieve a two-state solution," Prabowo stated during a joint statement with Boluarte.
On the same occasion, Boluarte stated that Indonesia and Peru share similar perspectives, including advancing democracy, defending multilateralism, upholding international law, supporting free trade, strengthening South-South cooperation, and working toward food security and sustainable development.
"With five decades of friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding, we have established a strong and lasting relationship based on shared interests," she remarked.
President Boluarte arrived in Jakarta on Sunday (August 10) for a state visit, following an invitation from President Prabowo when they met at the 2024 APEC Summit in Lima.
Her trip marks the first visit by a Peruvian president since the two countries established diplomatic relations on August 12, 1975.
During the meeting, President Prabowo awarded the nation's highest honor, Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna (Adipurna Star), to President Boluarte for her contributions to strengthening relations and friendship between Indonesia and Peru.
Indonesia and Peru also signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after 14 months of negotiations.
President Prabowo welcomed the Indonesia-Peru CEPA and noted that the negotiations had progressed swiftly, considering that CEPA negotiations usually require several years to finalize.
Accompanying President Boluarte on her state visit to Jakarta were Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer Salcedo, Minister of Economy and Finance Raúl Pérez-Reyes Espejo, Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation Ángel Amnero Campo, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Úrsula Desilú León Chempén, Secretary General of the Presidential Office Enrique Vilchez, Peruvian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Luis Tsuboyama, and Director General for Asia and Oceania at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fernando Quiros Campos.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
