Jakarta (ANTARA) - Peruvian President Dina Boluarte described Indonesia as a valuable trade partner for her country in Southeast Asia and praised it as one of the most dynamic economies in Asia.

During a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, she noted that Indonesia and Peru had reached a significant milestone in their 50 years of cooperation.

"Indonesia stands not only as the world's fourth-most populous country, but also as the largest Muslim democracy globally. Five decades of friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding have forged a solid and enduring bond," Boluarte remarked.

She expressed confidence that opportunities remain wide open for the two countries to further deepen ties, particularly in the trade sector.

In this regard, she underlined that Indonesia is now Peru's sixth-largest trade partner in Asia, while Peru ranks fourth among Indonesia's main export destinations in South America and the Caribbean.

Boluarte made her remarks following a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo, during which they exchanged perspectives on various strategic issues, ranging from politics and diplomacy to potential cooperation in trade and investment.

At the palace, the two presidents also witnessed the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) - a pact expected to bolster economic and trade relations, boost the exchange of goods, and lay the foundation for broader trade cooperation.

"The CEPA serves as a testament to our governments' determination to promote free trade and strengthen our economic standing," Boluarte stated.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo noted the short period required to finalize the CEPA-just 14 months-and expressed hope that the agreement would mutually expand access to markets and intensify bilateral trade.

The two governments also announced a joint declaration to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
