Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed Indonesia's commitment to support the partnership between ASEAN and Peru on Monday.

He conveyed this during a joint statement with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

"We are committed to support the partnership between ASEAN and Peru," Prabowo said.

He also lauded Peru's leadership in organizing the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

"I express our appreciation for Peru's leadership as the APEC chairmanship in 2024. We are also committed to enhancing cooperation as Pacific nations," Prabowo added.

The meeting between the two leaders was part of a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Peru, which was marked by the signing of a joint declaration to strengthen cooperation in various sectors.

During her visit, President Boluarte also announced that Peruvian blueberries have for the first time entered the Indonesian market.

She credited this success to Peru's rich biodiversity and favorable geography, which allow for the production of a variety of fresh fruits and superfoods, such as quinoa, matcha, chia, and blueberries.

According to Boluarte, Peru has enjoyed nearly three decades of sustained economic growth, with an average growth rate of 4.4 percent over the past 20 years, single-digit inflation, a stable exchange rate, and controlled interest rates.

Besides trade promotion, she also welcomed investment opportunities in Peru.

On Monday, the two countries signed the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after 14 months of negotiations.

This agreement is expected to strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Indonesia and Peru.

In addition, Indonesia is an important partner for Peru in Southeast Asia. Indonesia is Peru's sixth-largest trading partner in Asia, and Peru also ranks fourth as the largest export destination for Indonesian products to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Boluarte's visit was the first by a Peruvian president since the two countries established diplomatic relations on August 12, 1975.
